Ginger Dog Script to Scratch

What is a Scratch Night?

As Ginger Dog Theatre launch “Script to Scratch”, we thought we’d also launch our blog series by answering a few questions around what a Scratch night is as well as giving you more info on how you can be a part of things!

Scratch Night? For Ginger Dogs?

As much as Toast, our resident mascot, loves a good scratch, in theatre terms a Scratch Night is an opportunity to launch, refine and or develop new ideas and new writing (sorry Toast)

It’s a space for writers and creators to test new work on a live audience, and for actors, directors, and audiences to support the development of the work.

There are different versions of how this might work, and at Ginger Dog, we’re working on a model we hope will support local artists and give local audiences something new and exciting.

What does a Ginger Dog Scratch Night look like?

Script to Scratch is hosted and produced by Ginger Dog CIC – a community interest company led by Actor, Director and more Carolyn, and Producer, Finance and mascot keeper Catherine. We are being supported by Newark Palace Theatre to host the event as a studio event on the stage of the Palace Theatre – with seating and performance area on stage. We’re excited to have such a beautiful backing.

We’re asking that writers, actors and directors who can spend an evening with us in Newark sign up to support this launch event.

We are currently without funding. But if we can demonstrate a desire for this event, it’s something we’ll be looking for in future to help develop the talent we know is out there!

What does that look like for writers?

For writers, we’re asking you to provide a 10 minute piece of work (either standalone or part of a bigger piece). We’ll review all submissions, and we’ll choose 4 for the evening.

I love the Theatre! What can I do?

As a Community Interest Company, Ginger Dog are committed to bringing as much theatre and storytelling to our Community as possible. So, please come along and support the event! And if you can’t, please spread the word to people who might.
